How we do it

If you want to know more about how we can deliver such an offer, please read on to find out…

As a vehicle body repair shop we have many of the same tools and equipment as every other body repair shop around the area !
Spray booth low bake oven
Crash repair jig
Pulling systems
Fully compliant approved water base paint systems
In house quality control system
Fully skilled, highly trained staff to industry standards with two hands and own brain!

You get the picture.

We also fully guarantee all repairs for three years or whatever is left of the manufacturers warranty, whichever is most; any more would only be an unrealistic marketing ploy!

We work to manufacturer approved standards and repair vehicles on a weekly basis for people who own their own car, who claim on an insurance policy.

So what do they mean when they say “oh it can’t go there they are not approved!”

They use fright tactics to save money! Ask them what exactly do I get from an approved repairer that you cant get anywhere else!

You also need to know that it is almost impossible to sue an approved repairer for poor workmanship! However, if you are not happy with the insurance repair and insurance company, you can report them to the insurance ombudsman. It will cost the insurer £350 instantly!

Basically an insurance approval is an agreement between the repairer and the insurance company.

The contract goes something like this

The repairer will need to install a computer estimating system in the region of £5000-£10,000, and depending on which system, they still have to pay a fee per estimate on top of around £6 per estimate depending on type of system.

The repairer as agreed will cover a 50 mile radius and collect and deliver damaged vehicles for free within 24 hrs of notification

The repairer will need a fleet of courtesy cars of less than three years old
which must be supplied for free

Written off vehicles must be collected, estimated and stored for free and during this period the customer must have a free courtesy car which can take anything from a week to two for the insureres to sort out.

You will need to employ a fully trained driver to operate the breakdown wagon which you must also supply free of charge.

We the insurer demand 10% commission on all labour paint and parts per reffered job which must be marked clearly on the invoice.

You will need to have a claims manager estimator to manage all our claims in your area also a fleet manager to manage you courtesy cars and deal with the salvage company for all the write offs you will recieve

You must have the latest quality procedure in place (currently pas 125) but there has been many others e.g. there was a Q.A. system that died a death a few years ago which cost around £10,000 to get through also ISO 9001 9002 etc which cost £5,000 last time I did it. All these systems are run by so called ‘bodies’ or associations that do their best to justify these costs but it is basically a folder on a shelf and a hefty subscription to whichever company is current.

don’t get me wrong not all insurance companies approvals are like this but be careful!
It also works the other way around! there are some cowboy garages so before you leave your car somewhere check out their reputation and ask to see their work, look at the workshop is it clean tidy and do they have the right equipment.

A quality body shop is not cheap to set up so even though they may not be ‘approved which is irrelevant anyway’ you have to ask yourself ‘would these people spend all this money and effort to not do a good job and risk their own reputation’

I don’t think so!!

As you may be aware vehicles are dropping in value daily so if your vehicle is only worth £2000-£3000 and both airbags have gone off, your car will probably be scrap and go through the process described above. This is because airbags and their electronic control units ( e.c.u’s) are vastly expensive around £500 each per bag plus upto the same again for the e.c.u. Also if you have seat belt pre tensioners they aren’t cheap either! Also air con these days and now many headlamps are £500 each

So you get the picture the industry from an approved repairers point of view is a bit grim because all they do is clean up write offs for insurance companies.

Another blow for the approved repairer is the new website driven quote system where you can chose your own excess upto £1500. So the people with these large excesses are no longer forced to visit the approved body shop because they have the freedom to shop around and spend their own hard earned cash!!!

All of a sudden the approved shops are only half as busy as before and are screaming at the insurance companies for work! Most of the insurance approved body shops have been complacent only doing an average to poor job, they didn’t need to do a good job in the past because you had to go there until now. They didn’t need a good reputation in the past but now all of a sudden they desperately need one so loads of nicey nicey advertising may work on the unsuspecting few but the years of bad reputation has already done the damage! so watch this space over the next few years will leave only the quality shops.

So that’s why the insurance companies try to force you to go there! because they need to get their commissions or savings or whatever from the approved repairer they also have more control over how your car is repaired. don’t forget this is your asset in their hands do you trust a total stranger who’s intention is to save money for the insurance co that sends them work or do you trust the independent who wants you to go away happy and tell your family and friends. After all you paid your premium for the service and I bet most years gone by you never used it.

The average person claims on their insurance once every 7.5 years I myself have never claimed and I’ve been driving 20 years I’ve paid insurance all that time Who’s winning there! Imagine the whole country doing this! How much money is going into insurers banks, and they want to save 10% plus repair you vehicle as cheaply as they want not how you want!

Below is A quote I found on a quick search of an Insurance approved body shop.

See for yourself and follow the link below this particular repair was done by UK assistance which is direct lines own body shop

When it comes to car insurance repair work UK assistance are shocking. They did such a poor job on my car, which with any other insurer would've been a write off. I was amazed at the blas! attitude of uk assistance the work was poor and communication worse. I then found out that uk assistance can afford to adopt this attitude as they were completing work on behalf Churchill , both of these companies being owned by RBS. Such a shame that churchill was taken over by RBS as their customer service has been impeccable. Now though they'll lose a customer in me.

So basically what we do is cherry pick our work! we don’t have all the unnecceacey non-productive staff, loads of storage space for write offs and courtesy cars for people to drive from these write offs, our overheads are minimal compared to others but the skill level is the same if not higher.

This leaves us able to focus on keeping you happy by repairing your vehicle right, and provide you with an outstanding service.

Keep our good reputation and quality

Be able to pass the saving onto you the customer and not the insurer after all you have paid for this service probably ten times over I know I have!
